General information

The Architectural Technology and Construction Management programme is offered in cooperation with VIA University College. The first three semesters is located at AARHUS TECH (Halmstadgade 6) and the last four semesters at VIA (Halmstadgade 2). The ATCM programme combines theory and practice and you get to work individually and in groups.

1st semester - Building Plot and 1-2 storey dwelling

Your 1st semester project is a "single-family house" and all aspects relating to situating the house on a plot, specifying and arranging rooms, selecting materials, building services, costing, time management etc.
The project work is divided into 2 parts.

  • Introductory assignments
  • Project - Single-family house
    • Outline Proposal - presented individually to class
    • Scheme Design - presented by each group at their final evaluation

2nd semester - Land plot and single family house

The project methodology in the 2nd semester is applied to the following themes:

  • Industry and Technology
  • International project week
  • Designing a two-storey single-family house with a basement

3rd semester - Industrialised building design

The overall theme in the 3rd Semester is "Industrialised building design", and this theme will define the framework for the projects to be carried out by the students. Similarly to the previous two semesters, the predominant work method will be project work - carried out as group work whenever possible.

4th semester - Multi-storey buildings

The overall theme in the 4th semester is 'Multi-storey buildings with dwellings and commercial units' in 3-4 storeys, and this theme will define the framework for the projects to be carried out by the students.

Similarly to the previous two semesters, the predominant work method will be project work - carried out as group work whenever possible.

5th semester - Refurbishment and Remodelling

The main theme of the 5th semester is 'Refurbishment and Remodelling'. The theme covers substantial changes of the functions, construction principles and material composition in an existing building including civil engineering works.

6th semester - Individually chosen building project

The overall theme for the semester project is an 'Individually chosen building project'. Contrary to previous semesters you will not be given a common introduction to the project (in the syllabus or elsewhere). It is the idea that you should carry out an individual study sequence (internship) where you will get the chance to use your accumulated experience as described in your portfolio.

In consultation with your tutor you will select a number of shorter assignments/projects.

The basis for this selection will partly be your own wishes and needs and partly be in relation to the overall learning aims for the semester.

7th semester - dissertation/final project

Dissertation

Your dissertation is the final one of a series of electives - 3., 4., 5. and now 7. semester.

The dissertation should express the extent to which you are able to undertake and complete a problem-related dissertation of your own choice. It should result in your gaining more extensive knowledge of a specific subject in your education. It should also document your abilities in written communication.

Final project

The Final Design Project is the final part of your education and should give the impression of the multi-disciplinary nature of the your education - with emphasis on planning and design.

The project should also express your skills within such fields as building, planning and management, structural design and building services.

Your project should also express your abilities to combine the various disciplines that you learned during your education. The final result should appear as clearly-defined, "total project".
